CREDENTIALS

Maggie Yim is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) as well as a Professional Member with the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP). She is also a certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist (EFCT) by the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT).

AREAS OF FOCUS

Maggie’s areas of specialty include emotion regulation, depression, anxiety/panic attacks, stress, self-esteem, negative thinking, sleep issues, mental health, loss/grief, trauma/PTSD, cultural adjustment, life transitions, work issues, anger management, low energy/motivation, as well as couple and family relationship.

Maggie is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Maggie graduated with a Masters of Divinity (M. Div.) in Clinical Counselling from Tyndale University College and Seminary in 2017. Maggie has worked in family service centre, mental health agencies, medical health clinic, and community services. Occasionally, she is invited to deliver educational workshops to community groups.

APPROACH TO TREATMENT

As a therapist, Maggie believes in the importance of a strong therapeutic relationship that leads to positive outcomes in emotional well-being. Maggie’s approach is client-centred and grounded in empathy, compassion, and non-judgment. She strives to create a safe and warm environment where clients can openly and comfortably process the unique circumstances. Maggie is a therapist who draws on several therapy approaches including Focusing Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Play Therapy, and Mindfulness Therapy. From an intersectional lens, she is passionate about guiding clients and supporting each individual on a unique journey to discover their resilience, explore inherent strengths, and learn and adopt new coping strategies/skills.
