With over 20 years of clinical experience, Phyllis takes an integrative, evidence-based approach tailored to each client’s needs. She draws from a range of therapeutic models to support clients through both long-standing challenges and significant life transitions. Her work emphasizes building insight, strengthening resilience, and fostering meaningful, sustainable change.

The foundation of Phyllis’s practice is culturally sensitive and client-centered care. She provides a non-judgmental, supportive environment where clients can safely explore their experiences, build self-awareness, and develop practical strategies for navigating challenges. Education and experience

Phyllis is the founder, clinical director, and privacy officer of Positive Minds Psychotherapy Services, which she established in 2015 to provide compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals, couples, and families.

Her professional journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, followed by a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

After completing her master’s program in 2003, Phyllis spent five years working as a guidance counsellor at a junior high school in the United States, helping young people navigate challenges both inside and outside the classroom. She then moved to Toronto, where she worked for seven years as a clinician at a residential program supporting youth and families in crisis.

Since 2012, Phyllis has been in private practice, working with clients from all walks of life. Between 2014 and 2016, she also provided Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services for several organizations.

In addition to her clinical work, Phyllis is passionate about supporting other mental health professionals. She completed advanced training in clinical supervision and has been serving as a clinical supervisor since 2020. From 2022 to 2023, she also shared her knowledge and experience as a part-time professor at George Brown College.

Phyllis is also a WSIB-approved mental health provider, offering psychotherapy services.

Through all her roles, Phyllis remains dedicated to helping people grow, heal, and connect, with themselves and with others.

Beyond the therapy room

Phyllis brings both professional expertise and personal understanding to her work. As a parent, she appreciates the many complexities of raising children in today’s world. Her own experiences supporting loved ones with mental health challenges have deepened her empathy and strengthened her commitment to helping families on similar journeys.

Phyllis values a holistic approach to wellness and practices what she teaches through meditation, reading, and staying physically active. She believes that healing happens not only in the therapy room but also through the daily choices we make to care for ourselves and nurture balance in our lives.
