Approach to treatment

Michelle brings over 10 years of experience in client care to her work at Positive Minds Psychotherapy Services. As a Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) therapist, she uses this research-supported approach grounded in attachment science to help couples and families understand and transform the emotional patterns creating distance in their relationships. Emotionally Focused Therapy focuses on strengthening emotional bonds and fostering secure, lasting connections.

Michelle is fascinated by the dynamics between couples and between parents and their children. She understands that families often struggle with finding connection, leaving them feeling overwhelmed and helpless. Michelle has helped disconnected couples and families regain connection and has witnessed how stress from broken relationships impacts a person’s well-being, and how restored relationships bring emotional and relational healing.

Drawing on her background in both naturopathic medicine and psychotherapy, Michelle takes an integrative approach that honors the connection between emotional well-being and overall health. She creates a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their emotions, understand their patterns, and develop new ways of connecting with the people who matter most to them.

Areas of focus

Michelle works with couples, families, and individuals experiencing relationship distress or seeking deeper connection. She work with clients managing issues including: relationship distress and conflict, communication difficulties, emotional disconnection and attachment injuries, trust and intimacy issues, parent-child relationship challenges, family dynamics and intergenerational patterns, life transitions affecting relationships and the impact of stress and trauma on relationships.

Education and experience

Michelle completed her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at McMaster University before attending the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM), where she received the Richard McCrorie Award in 2009 for outstanding compassion and integrity in patient care.

While practicing as a naturopathic doctor, she became increasingly aware of the profound impact of trauma and relational disconnection on overall well-being. This insight inspired her transition into psychotherapy. She completed her Master of Divinity degree at Tyndale University in 2021, where she deepened her understanding of how relationships, meaning-making, and emotional healing are interconnected.

Beyond the therapy room

Michelle is passionate about health education and community engagement. She has been invited on numerous occasions to speak at health fairs and corporate events, and is a regular presenter to senior groups in churches across the GTA, where she shares her knowledge about the vital connection between relationships and well-being.

Michelle believes deeply in practicing what she teaches. At home, she intentionally creates safe and secure attachment relationships with her two young sons and her husband, recognizing that connection and emotional responsiveness are daily practices, not destinations. She finds joy in nurturing growth, whether tending to edible plants on her balcony, experimenting with new recipes in her kitchen, or playing ball sports with her kids. These moments of presence and playfulness remind her of the importance of staying emotionally attuned and engaged with the people we love, values that are at the heart of her therapeutic work.
