Approach to treatment

Joyce’s core belief is that everyone has the capacity to unlock their strengths and live a meaningful, fulfilling life. Rooted in psychodynamic therapy and positive psychology, she offers a warm, empathic, and non-judgmental therapeutic space. Joyce helps clients explore how past experiences, attachments, and relationships shape present emotions and patterns—always with curiosity, compassion, and cultural sensitivity.

Joyce tailors these approaches to children, adolescents, and adults, working collaboratively to support insight, resilience, and meaningful change.

Features

Joyce’s passion for mindful parenting and family well-being is reflected in her published research, “Mediation Effect of Mindful Parenting on Parental Self-Efficacy and Parent–Child Attachment.” She had the honour of presenting this work at the 5th Asian Pacific Rim International Counselling and Psychotherapy Conference in Singapore (2017), sharing insights that continue to inform and inspire her therapeutic practice.

Education and experience

Joyce holds a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Hong Kong Shue Yan University. Her professional background includes extensive experience in child psychotherapy and parenting psycho-education.

Before relocating to Canada, Joyce worked in community and educational settings supporting children with diverse learning needs and their families. Her work included: • Strength-based individual psychotherapy • Social–emotional, attention, executive-functioning, and mindfulness therapeutic groups (both virtual and in person) • Training educators, psychologists, social workers, and counsellors in LEGO® DUPLO® Six Bricks and Play Box methodologies

She brings a unique blend of clinical expertise, play-based training, and culturally attuned practice to her work with individuals and families.

Beyond the therapy room

Joyce describes herself as a playful learner, a mindful psychotherapist, and a “good-enough” mother. She values creativity and believes deeply in the healing power of play.

Outside of her professional life, she enjoys meditation, reading, building with LEGO® bricks, and baking desserts for her family and friends.
