Person-centered care is at the heart of Matthew’s therapeutic philosophy. He believes that clients are the experts of their own lives and experiences.
Person-centered care is at the heart of Matthew’s therapeutic philosophy. He believes that clients are the experts of their own lives and experiences. His role is to walk alongside them, offering professional insight, warmth, and support while honouring each person’s unique background, story, and worldview.
Matthew understands that each individual’s perspective is shaped by culture, identity, lived experiences, and personal history. Because of this, he works collaboratively with deep respect for his clients’ needs and values. Building a trusting, authentic therapeutic relationship is central to his approach.
For one person, this might mean recognizing and building on strengths that already exist; for another, it may involve exploring unhelpful thinking patterns or developing new coping strategies. Together, you’ll discover what resonates and supports your journey toward healing, clarity, and meaningful change.
Matthew offers a compassionate, grounded, and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their experiences, build insight, and move toward meaningful, sustainable change.
Matthew integrates evidence-informed approaches, including:
Matthew completed his undergraduate studies at York University in 2020 and earned his Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University in 2023. He has also completed additional certifications and training in the mental health field and continues to expand his professional knowledge and skills.
Matthew has experience supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds through his work in the public sector, community settings, and volunteer roles. His experience includes: • Supporting marginalized and underserved populations • Working with individuals experiencing substance use challenges • Mentoring children and youth in both in-person and virtual settings • Providing remote emotional support to isolated seniors
Through these experiences, Matthew has developed an appreciation for the diverse circumstances that can influence a person’s mental health and well-being. He brings cultural sensitivity, openness, and respect to his work and recognizes the impact that systemic barriers, relationships, and life experiences can have on emotional well-being.
Matthew is particularly committed to supporting marginalized and underserved communities and strives to create a welcoming and inclusive therapeutic environment where clients feel heard, respected, and supported.
His writing on ethical counselling practice has also been featured in Ethical Connections, reflecting his interest in thoughtful and ethical approaches to mental health care.
