CREDENTIALS

Joyce Chu is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and a Registered Counselling Psychologist with Hong Kong Psychological Society (HKPS). She is also a Certified Facilitator of the Methodology of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®, DUPLO® Six Bricks, and Play and Learn (Care for Education), as well as a Mindfulness Instructor (MYmind).

 

AREAS OF FOCUS

Joyce integrates psychodynamic therapy and strength-based approach in her individual and group psychotherapy practice. She is devoted to supporting children and adults in recognizing their emotional needs, discovering the inner resources, developing their character strengths, and building self-confidence and resilience in the face of life adversity. Her specialties include learning difficulties, interpersonal relational matters, parenting concerns, self-esteem, life transitions, stress, and anxiety.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Joyce graduated from Hong Kong Shue Yan University with a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. She focuses on child psychotherapy, individual counselling, and parenting psychoeducation. Before relocating to Canada, Joyce devotes to supporting families and children who encounter special education needs through strength-based individual psychotherapy, and a series of periodic virtual/live therapeutic groups such as social-emotional, attention, executive functioning, and mindfulness. In addition, Joyce’s profession is conducting LEGO® DUPLO® Six Bricks and Play Box playful training for local educators, psychologists, social workers, and counsellors.

APPROACH TO TREATMENT

Joyce’s core belief is “everyone can fully unleash their potentials and strengths in living a positively fulfilling life.” As grounded in positive psychology and psychodynamic approach, Joyce embraces empathy and a non-judgmental manner in her culturally sensitive clinical practice through play therapy, individual and group psychotherapy.

PERSONAL BACKGROUND

Joyce is a playful learner, a mindful psychotherapist, and a good-enough mother. She enjoys meditating, reading, and hands-on playing LEGO® bricks in consolidating new learnings. During her leisure time, she loves baking indulgent desserts for her beloved family and friends.

FEATURES

Joyce’s research “Mediation Effect of Mindful Parenting on Parental Self Efficacy and Parent-Child Attachment” has been published and presented at the 5th Asian Pacific Rim International Counselling and Psychotherapy Conference in Singapore in 2017. During her master’s study, she has been awarded three individual scholarships in recognizing her academic and research achievement, as well as her contribution to the community.
