EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Jeanie holds a Master of Social Sciences degree in Clinical Psychology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She also earned a Master of Christian Studies degree from China Graduate School of Theology, Hong Kong.

Jeanie practiced as a clinical psychologist in Hong Kong for more than 20 years. Early in her career, she served with the Department of Health of the Hong Kong SAR Government and the Sheng Kung Hui Primary School Counseling Service, delivering assessments to students as well as supporting school social workers and counsellors.

In 2004, she established her private practice, providing psychotherapy to individuals and families facing a wide range of mental health challenges. She treasured the opportunities to walk with people who struggled with mental and emotional issues, to grieve with individuals in strained relationships, and to attend to those facing deep suffering. Over the years, she has been delighted to see clients relieved from past hurts and grow to become stronger individuals. It has been a rewarding journey to witness lives transformed and uplifted from times of profound distress and restored to health, order, and stability.

In addition to her clinical work, Jeanie taught psychology and counselling courses as an adjunct professor at universities and a theological seminary.

Jeanie is deeply passionate about promoting mental health, emotional well-being, and healthy relationships. She has been delivering seminars and workshops on related topics for corporations, schools, and churches across Hong Kong.

After relocating to Ontario, Jeanie continues her psychotherapy practice with her extensive clinical experience and genuine care for people. Furthermore, she continues to provide psychoeducation through teaching and talks to support the evolving and diverse needs of her local community.

APPROACH TO TREATMENT

Jeanie believes that in our life journey, there are inevitable frustrations, failures, losses, turmoil, and afflictions. Psychotherapy is never meant to be a quick fix to life’s issues. It does, however, help us handle life stress more adaptively. She truly believes that psychotherapy helps in overcoming mental health constraints, leading to a life that is more resilient, robust, and enjoyable.
THERAPEUTIC MODALITIES

Trained as a scientist-practitioner, Jeanie integrates evidence-based approaches tailored to each client’s unique needs:

  • Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT): Identifies and changes unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors to improve emotional well-being
  • Client-Centered Therapy: Creates a supportive, non-judgmental space that honors the client’s capacity for self-direction and growth
  • Mindfulness-Based Interventions: Cultivates present-moment awareness and acceptance to reduce stress and enhance emotional regulation
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy: Emphasizes client strengths and practical solutions to achieve meaningful goals
She listens empathetically and helps clients understand their mental health conditions as well as manage their current symptoms. When the client is more stable and ready, root causes of the mental health issues are identified and addressed. Areas of focus include thinking patterns, emotional response patterns, family background, significant relationships, and childhood trauma. The goal is to help clients make wise choices, restore relationships, and discover new meaning and goals in life.
